Chinese Marbled Tea Eggs

Rich Men Arden-Arcade

Chinese Marbled Tea Eggs are a traditional Chinese snack that look beautiful with their marbled pattern and taste delicious and fragrant. A lot of people eat them on the street, and theyre also fun to eat during holidays like Chinese New Year.

Ingredients:

  • 6 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons black tea leaves
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 star anise
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 4 cups water

Instructions:

Put the eggs in a pot with enough water to cover them

The eggs should be cooked for 5 minutes after the water comes to a boil

Take the eggs out of the water and let them cool down

Once the eggs are cool, quickly hit them with the back of a spoon to crack the shells all over

Do not peel the eggs yet

Put the black tea leaves, soy sauce, dark soy sauce, cinnamon stick, star anise, Chinese five-spice powder, salt, and sugar in a different pot

Add 4 cups of water

Bring the tea mix to a boil, then lower the heat so it doesnt boil over

Crack the eggs and add them to the tea that is already simmering

Let the eggs simmer in the tea mixture for two to three hours

If you need to, add water to keep the eggs submerged and stop the tea from drying out too much

Remove the pot from the heat and let the tea-mixed eggs cool for at least 30 minutes

Once its cool, take the eggs out of the tea mix and peel them to see the marbled pattern on the egg whites

You can eat the Chinese Marbled Tea Eggs as a snack or an appetizer
